Mario 64 is never just mario 64, in any form.
But yes it is - but with loads of mini-games to play with the stylus, and 10 (I think) extra shine spirtes. And it looks a bit better.

is mario 64DS good? im getting it for crimbo and wondered if it was just the N64's version just portable.
I have two Luigi rabbits and one Wario rabbit left, but most Luigi games are pants. :P
