Now that would just be plain stupid. Hit your tooth with the hammer instead, then the pain should be so intense for a short while that when it returns to it's usual pain level, you won't feel a thing.

My wisdom teeth were killing my gums the other week, thankfully they've grown past that stage now and im relatively comfortable, they are a pain to clean though, putting the tooth brush that far back makes me gag.

It's worth a try, but I think it's more likely that a dentist or orthodontist would stock it. If the place I go to is anything to go by, always trying to sell me electric toothbrushes and all manner of other overpriced junk, you should be able to find some somewhere.

You can usually get local anaesthetic gel from your dentist/orthodontist; this is usually given out when you have just had braces put it, but you can get it otherwise. It works quite well, as I remember one of my friends spraying a tube of the stuff all around her mouth and ending up barely able to speak due to a numb throat, lips and tongue.

But follow your dentist's advice- it'll probably go off, and they'll know what's best. Dentistry is not something that sits well with me, seeing as I've had six or so teeth removed in the past few years.
