This is a quite wonderful film, can't be categorised as a romantic comedy as it's refreshingly free of overly-mawkish sentiment and concrete-hard dialogue that no real person in their right mind would say to another. It's written and directed by Zach Braff (yep, JD from Scrubs) and stars himself as a twentysomething going through a quarter life crisis, strung out on Lithium for most of his life and going nowhere until he's forced to return home to Jersey for his mother's funeral.

There he meets Natalie Portman, in a brilliantly awkward scene that's about as real as you'll find on film - there's no cheesy one-liners, no overblown romantic gestures, no violins playing as their eyes meet across a crowded room. Just stilted, awkward dialogue from two people who obviously dig each other but can't bring themselves to admit it. For the record, Portman is drop dead fantastic in this movie, about a billion years away from her Star Wars 'acting' jobs. Helps that she's gorgeous too.

Go see it, I'll kill you if you don't.

"That was you, the ice skating alligator?"
"Sure, you can tell by the hands."

Saw it last week, and absolutely loved it. I saw it as a sort of 'Igby Goes Down meets Lost in Translation' film.

Anyway, brilliant. Plus I'd never heard of The Shins, and they're great too.

"If there was a retarded Oscar, you'd win, hands down!"

"We'll probably head over there right after we bury your mum."

Looks fantastic.
The whole 'real as you'll find on film' part, is what I'm looking forward to the most. Can't wait!
Looks like I'll be grabbing the Region 1 too. Hurry!

I've been waiting for this since it caused a lot of fuss at Sundance last year. It's finally here and guess what? It's not playing anywhere near me.

Gutted.

The R1 DVD is out in the next couple of weeks so I asked for it for Christmas. But as it won't get here in time, I don't think anyone's bought it for me.

It looks great and hopefully I'll find a way of seeing it soon. On a plus, my copy of Napolean Dynamite was shipped yesterday.
