Any LCD display is prone to the Dead Pixel. It is a rare problem though.

Each pixel on a flat screen (like a TFT computer screen) has its own tiny circuit that delivers it power and signal. If that circuit gets broken for whatever reason, due to a manufacturing fault or shipping incident, then that pixel will not change colour with the rest of the screen, appearing as a dead dot (although often it will be lost in the background). I've only heard of dead pixels in the context of TFT monitors, although it's probable that something like a DS or a PSP might suffer from dead pixels. If you get a unit with a dead pixel, you should be able to take it back and exchange it.
