War of the worlds. Teaser, but promising. I'll begrudgingly forgive then for setting it modern day (corking and very intelligent way to explain why we can't fight back. It almost forces it back to the original victorian setting), as long as the damn machines are tripods and the heat ray survives.

1) The aliens don't look like Et's retarded cousin from Alabama
2) Tripods
3) It's got more spectacle than ID4
3) Tripods
4) Heat ray remains and is used frequently abnd liberally to hose down yanks
4) Did I mention I want to see tripods?
I love the book, ending chapter pacing nonewithstanding and at first I spat teeth at the news of this remake. I'd still love to see a verion set in Victorian England, but with the clever (and obvious) way the martians (hate that word) take down the human defenses, I'm reluctantly starting to look forward to it. Speilberg? Cruise? What's happening to me?
No shmaltz though please Mr Speilberg. I want the Jaws Speilberg, not the The Terminal Speilberg. Doubt we'll get it though............
I wrote a post a while back about how much modern cinema rapes old classics, but I've had a bit of a change of heart since then, and I'm not too bothered now - I can always watch the old film. Still not sure about Spielberg/Cruise, but at least it's not Tom Hanks. Liking the screams as the aliens land over the moutains too. If they were aliens, because we never saw the tri-eye thing come through the smoke at the end!
