We have a squad of 13 players, with Carlton Cole not even a Villa player and all the rest are youth players. It's a good job we have a great manager, otherwise we would be fighting a relegation battle now.

We need some new players in the January transfer window, and if Doug Ellis doesn't splash his cash, then will won't be challenging for that Champions League place and probably won't even get into the UEFA Cup.

The wages can't be that high, so why won't he give O'Leary what he wants?

If he doesn't we will be in a relegation fight next season all because of him. O'Leary wants a new contract which he deserves and won't sign unless the backroom staff get new contracts also. Then you've got Hitzlesperger not signing a new contract until O'Leary signs and he could be gone at the end of the season for nothing.

That will mean no O'Leary, no Hitzlesperger and C. Cole back at Chelsea, with Villa having an even smaller squad, which he expects to challenge for Europe???

O'Leary is the main man, so give him what he wants or get prepare to get relegated.

Same situation as Celtic are in. Ageing squad, with barely no money available for transfers, which the club really needs to go that step further in the Champions League. The club are too scared to spend a lot of money due to being worried about what will happen if signings made turn out to be a failure. If they spend a lot and then drop out of the Champions League, it could turn into quite a bad situation in financial terms.

I kind of see why chairmen and executives don't invest as much money as the manager and the fans would like, as look what happened to Leeds and also Lazio and Roma in Italy (Lazio are nearly £200 million in debt). Can be frustrating, but football's all about money these days and the simple fact of the matter is a lot of clubs just don't have it.

I think Ellis has the right idea to be honest. There is no point in spending money you don't have trying to push on. If it all goes wrong then you end up like Leeds.

As Ron Atkinson said last night, i think you should try and get Beattie and Parker.
