Is there a diference between DVD+R and DVD-R?

Which is best or does it depend on its intended use etc.?

Thank you in advance.

There are technical differences between them, so occasionally you could have compatiability issues. But they are rare.

Pretty much, yes. But bear in mind that dvd player compatibility varies between the two formats.

If you've got a DVD writer drive on your PC, or a DVD Player for a TV, check compatibility with the different types.

DVD+R is the only one that supports dual layer, other than that i dont think there's much difference. I use DVD-R though.
