Bought a webcam today, set it up, and I try to uyse it, and it says.

I was like What the **** as loadsa my mates have webcams and they didnt have to have video capturing software.....That their aware of, so was wandering how I can resolve this without buying something as im already saving up for a pc.

Well if you haven't yet bought the PC, that could be a more serious problem then not having some hardware.
Didn't it come with software to allow you to record .avi/take pictures and stuff?
All it came with, is some gay chatroom thing, the driver and something that has a telephone or something :/

Gay chatrooms are quite annoying when you actually want to woo people of the opposite sex over the internet.
XP will auto-recognise it - failing that check the manufacturers webby.
What make/model is the cam?
It *should* come with an auto-exe disk that'll set it up in a matter of minutes for you.
