Seriously, they're excellent pets. After the nightmare of looking after my girlfriend's rabbit (it chews everything in sight - ethernet cables, sofas, DVD boxes, remote controls, curtains, live electrical wires - all wrecked), the budgie is a welcome change. It's a proper little character, really cheeky and fun. Show it anything shiny and it'll run or fly for it, like a hawk. Make high-pitched noises and it'll squawk back. Apparently they can speak too.

It's latest trick is picking up crisp packets, spinning round a few times, then letting go and throwing them. Chase, repeat, fun fun fun!

My friend had a budgie, it was well clever. We used to play blind date with it, and it used to wait on the spot until we removed the barrier, which was just a book or something, then it used to go up to one of 3 model birds and start rubbing its beak up to it.

I used to have a pet mouse that competed in the Olympics.

Maybe.

But I did actually have a mouse, and he was a fat, lazy bast. He didn't really do much, but I do remember this one time we put cheese at the end of a maze and he got it uber-quickly.

What's the budgie called?

Man that sounds pretty cool. i wish my seamonkeys could do that. I tried putting a crisp packet in their tank but they all stopped moving. :(
