Looking at most new DVD movies appearing or due to appear, a fair number of them have music videos attached to the extras section. I enjoy watching music videos for films, they are often pretty well done as the film director tends to shoot them, or at least the singers will be paid enough to get someone half decent to do the video. They are also often in 5.1 sound as well, something that normal CDs just can't do and this really makes a big difference to the way you hear the music.

The only thing is that you actually have to keep the film to have the video, meaning that you have to go trawling through your film collection (making it collapse on top of you in my case!) to get to the music video you want. Wouldn't it be nice to have all these soundtrack songs on one disc? Well, until rewritable DVD becomes affordable it's not possible, but surely there could be an equivalent to the movie soundtrack albums that currently pop in and out of the music charts these days.

A film soundtrack, like Bridget Jones for instance, could be given its own DVD, or better still a compilation DVD could feature songs from films such as Men in Black, Matrix, Spawn, The Crow, Armageddon, right back to stuff like Flashdance, Ghostbusters and Sound of Music (ok, so maybe not Sound of Music, I don't think they made a music video of that, at least I hope not...)

Anyone else think this is a good idea?

If you're looking for a stunning music DVD package, seek out "Salival" by Tool.

I ordered mine from the U$A and I'm glad I did.
Comes in a presentation box, music CD and DVD, hardback booklet with artwork and live pics on.
CD is over an hour of live tracks and unreleased studio material, but the DVD excels.

All 4 of their videos, including a secret hidden one that's a pain to locate.
Presentation is awesome, menus in usual Tool style and sound quality is stunning.

Puts most other music DVDs to shame.

Except Talking Heads "Stop Making Sense", a reason I would buy a DVD player alone

Ash released their recent singles on DVD.

The Super Furry Animals are releasing their new album on DVD, with short films for each and every song!

I reckon you should just throw away Megadeath as it's crap anyway.

Oh and you could get one of those posh new CD players which allows you to put in the CD titles so you don't get the wrong ones all the time.

It is an interesting idea with the music videos I guess. Perhaps we will see a 'Now thats what I call music videos' coming out soon. What a great idea that would be!

Although I'm sure someone's had that one already.

heh! Yeah, I see your point. No, the compilation DVD would be the easiest option, meaning all the songs were on one DVD, rather than playing guess which film the tune is from and then locating it.

I've got a 7 CD player, but it doesn't help much as I can never remember which CD is on which number. Which is great if you want really relaxing mood music and you get Megadeath instead, climbing down from the ceiling is an interesting hobby...

Big Homer Simpson D'oh everytime I get the wrong CD!

Wouldn't it be just as hard to find a DVD with all the music on as it would to find the film dvd? And the same goes for regular CD's.

But interesting idea anyway. A few bands have brought out DVD's with their music videos on them and apparently Jamiroquai (one of my favourites bands) are doing the same later this year. Which is an excellent thing as they happen to have really good videos.

Maybe you should get one of those really expensive players which holds millions of DVDs and CDs at once, then you can keep from getting crushed by all those films.

Very handy if you're a borrower.
