Well, if it is as easy at cookie says then anyone can do it. I installed a new hardrive in my PC without any knoweldge about them. Only one 4 pin power cable and another cable for the data.
Dead easy. If you have fitted a new hard drive into a computer then it's basically the same.

They have the Sky+ 160 box which records 80 hours.
Or you can replace the hard drive yourself with a 250Gb one.

Sky+ only allows 20 hours, which is ridiculously little. They're bringing out a 40 hour version now, but still, that's not too much.
Thats the cheapest I've seen at the moment.
