"Michael Schumacher was in supreme form at the A1-Ring this afternoon as he inflicted an embarrassing defeat on McLaren to claim pole for the Austrian Grand Prix.
The German only needed one exceptional lap in the middle of the session to claim pole as the expected opposition from McLaren failed to materialise.
Instead the world championship leader was challenged by the Williams of Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher. Montoya joined Schumacher Sr on the front row to score the best qualifying position of his short F1 career.
Despite dominating all of Friday’s and today’s free practice sessions David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen could only manage a subdued seventh and eighth after failing to get their car’s hooked up in the qualifying hour.
Hakkinen and Coulthard made too many mistakes and too many grassy moments as they struggled with the set-up of their cars. It’s a huge blow for the Woking team as they attempt to fight back against Ferrari and Michael Schumacher in the world championship.
Rubens Barrichello backed up his team-mate to grab fourth spot on the grid and the Brazilian will prove a further thorn in the side of the McLarens as they attempt to climb into the points.
Jarno Trulli was the top Honda runner as he put in an excellent lap to start fifth for Jordan, but perhaps the most impressive effort came from the man that will start next to Trulli, Nick Heidfled. The former McLaren test driver will start ahead of both cars of his former employer after another brilliant drive."
Come on you Schumacher!!!
I only wanted to put the times up, not the text again!!
Sorry about that everyone!!
