I saw recently some insulation padding that you can put inside your computer to remove most of the sound it makes, sounds like a good idea because mine sounds like a plane! But does it actually work that well without increasing the temperature too much, or would it be easier to get a quieter fan? How easy is it to fit a new fan or this padding? Thanks for any help.

On a similar note, when my pc fires up, one of the fans is very noisy (I think it\'s a fan, rather than the HDD).
After a minute or so, it settles down, and is fairly quiet.

I think it might be the fan inside the psu - are these easy to replace?

Or should I just consider buying a new psu?

Look at replacing the sources of noise before getting acoustic insulation, I would.

It depends on what fans you have at the moment - if your fans sound like a jet engine at takeoff, then replacing your fans would be the best option. But if your fans are quiet anyway, and your case temp is fairly respectable, then the sound insulation could be considered. Fans are easy to replace.
