Is there any way I can get the computer to turn off at a specific time without me having to do it?

leave the Password
Finish
Reopen the scheduled task (doubleclick)
Click the "Run only if logged on" checkbox.
Finish

If your logged in, you don't need to enter a password. It drove me mental until I found this "Run only if logged on" checkbox.

Xp (should work 2000, 2000 server, nt etc. Don't know win95 / 98)

Open notepad wil new file.
type "c:\windows\system32\shutdown -f -s" (-f -= force running applications to close -s shutdown) [edit] "exit" command not needed.

Save this as "shutdown.bat"

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Scheduled tasks
Add Scheduled task
Wizard opens.
Next -> Browse -> point to "shutdown.bat" at the location you saved it (mines on desktop).
Perform this task "one time only"
Next
Enter a time and date
leave the Password
Finish
Reopen the scheduled task (doubleclick)
Click the "Run only if logged on" checkbox.
Finish

There we go.

There might be an easier way, but it works for me.

[edit] Hold on, it's not working. Give me a bit.
[edit2] Working now. the above proceedures will work.

To change the time, Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Scheduled tasks
, doubleclick the shutdown schedule and chenge the time in the second tab.

Hope this helps.
