My system is a bit naff really, I want to upgrade the graphics for doing 3D on Maya(trial ed). Nothing to big Im just playing around at the mo, but the intel graphics in my system keep crashing it. I need to keep the costs down if poss. The motherboard will only accept a pci graphics card, whats the best one I could get? Im also going to get a bit more memory and maybe a better cpu.

It's probably the best you're going to get on a PCI Bus.

No, in this case it will be the graphics chip that is the biggest bottle neck in his system. It really lacks any sort of power.

Meh, you're specs are fine.

Probably a lot cheaper than mine and not that much difference;

P4 3.2
ABIT IC7-G
1GB RAM
RADEON 9600XT

You'll notice a huge impact from the RAM though - HUGE.

While the VGA is important, it's more important to upgrade the RAM first, generally that may be enough for 3D rendering...

Well 512Mb RAM is OK, the CPU could probably do with an upgrade too, but I wouldn't think it's vital.

It's mainly the onboard graphics that are screwing you over I reckon.

Not sure on age, Think it can take 2.8ghz p4, 2gig of ram, then the pci gpu. At the mo its running on 2.8ghz celerone(?) 512mb, 64mb(shared) intel graphics. The hdd is also pants.I just ran pc mark2002 and got the following result: cpu - 6182
memory - 3621
hdd - 894

Then tried 3d mark 03 but it wouldnt run it?

If you're intending on upgrading the RAM and CPU too, you really would benefit from a complete upgrade as a Mobo that only supports PCI probably won't support anything of today's standard.

How old is the mobo?

Have a look at these:

I'd recommend the top one, even though it costs more. The extra RAM will help.

Bloody hell I can't spell today.
