One film coming to our cinemas soon is Shrek, a pixellated follow up to Antz from Dream Works. It uses the same animation techniques used in Antz, Bugs Life and the Toy Story films. All of which were very cartoon based but it had me wondering if a more serious line was taken with using pixels instead of people, could actors ever become redundant? After all, aren't Hollywoods finest on the verge of striking? Should film makers call their bluff and say 'who needs you anyway?'?
Just imagine all the possibilities. Wouldn't it be much better seeing a computer generated version of say, Kevin Costner, than the real thing? Sorry, that was a bad example. After all, who'd be able to tell?
Some of this years 'Blockbusters to come' would be much better if they were filmed this way. How about Tomb Raider or Planet of the Apes or Jurassic Park 3 ( whose main stars are already CGI ), or the planned version of Scooby Doo ( incidentally, it's a travesty that Rhys Ifans wasn't chosen as Shaggy).
On the other hand I don't think people could live without their regular fix's of their favourite stars. Imagine no more George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Hugh Grant or Brad Pitt. ( Cheers me up just thinking about it!)
At the end of the day I don't think computer graphics will ever take over from actors and actresses but as technology advances and the 'stars' continue to price themselves out of a job, it may just keep them on their toes.

Actors extinct? Well, maybe actresses! Only joking.

One thing to point out here is that actors and actresses alike make the film look much more realistic to the viewer, much like a soap. If everything was animated then I would certainly not feel as much into the film as I would say if it had actors/actresses. For example, I can't really see an action film with guns and gore making the star light in animation. Or another example, a film such as 'Snatch'.

If everything was animated in the film world then it would not appeal to the audience it wants and genres just wouldn't fit in. An animation makes the film have a better 'fun feel' factor and I find myself setting a diffrent mind to a film that is animated. If something is animated you automatically think, fun!

But, if actors/actresses were to go and be replaced by new technology then films just wouldn't be the same. Not for the storylines but for the feel of the film.

And thats what makes a film good right? The 'feel'.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
