Ever find yourself wondering "How in the hell do these barbaric insurgents actually get any support from the people of Iraq? Well, this quote made me put the insurgents into context;

"Criminal thugs calling themselves 'Resistance fighters' have been engaging in violent acts across the country, putting lives of men and women and children at risk, damaging the economy and compromising national security. These anti-social troublemakers are not motivated by any positive ideals or aspirations, but have the sole purpose of causing as much mayhem as possible. Make no mistake, they must and will be crushed in the name of stability and progress!"

Both sides could be pleasant, both sides could be evil ba*ards.

The Germans obviously had the rather large Holocaust handicap, but on POW terms, it wasn't exactly 'We're all good and they're all bad' (emphasis on all in both cases).

Well that's exactly it - you only know what you've been told, and it's specific examples, not the whole picture. Truth is, both sides were pretty harsh to each other behind closed doors. Iraq and Abu Gharib is a good example of that - I bet they thought them photos would never see light of day. Idiots. Now they're saying the photos were deliberately leaked as part of PsyOps. I find that very hard to believe, more like trying to excuse themselves again.

I believe that more German POW died in British camps than vice versa.

Uh...obviously that doesn't include slavic soldiers. Or gypsies. Or the old. Or infirm. Or Jews. Or homosexuals.

It's incredible how much it sill does MM - people consider the German army =N Nazis pure and simple - there were brutal cases on both sides, yet Britsh soldiers were all freedom fighters, while all Germans were Nazis.

To some people anyway...

I saw an interview with an elderly chap who was part of an SAS unit in World War 2. He was sent on a mission where they were to ram a boat full of explosives into a harbour, then it would detonate after they had all escaped. But it went t*ts up, and he and a load of other soldiers found themselves having to fight through a town connected to the harbour. They had no chance, and were all caught hiding in a cellar.

Afterwards they found out that the German army policy on this sort of thing was to wait until they came out. The British army were taught to throw hand grenades down. The man said he was ashamed to be in the British army that day. Goes to show that propaganda can have a long-lasting effect on us.
