There's already quite a substantial amount of mods in developments and Valve released the SDK tools for anyone with basic modding skills to get craking with new content.
Personally I'd love to see what They Hunger looks like using the source engine, the orignal was a fantastic stand alone addition, and one of the few single player mods I actually played for the roiginal Half Life.
