Ive happened to get my hands on a 20gb harddrive for my laptop, not overly huge but its big enough to do something with. So now i have my normal harddrive and this spare one.

I was thinking about putting a differant OS on it, and using it as a differant kind of computer, maybe something like a media based, and putting Windows XP media centre edition.

But im open for suggestions/ideas. What do you think i should do with it? Apart from having fun hitting it with a baseball bat.

Yeah, the usb sounds like a good idea. I'll take a look around for one.

Im on a 10gb harddrive at the mo, its small, too small for me, an extra 20 would be more then enough.
Would it be slow transfer on a usb 1.1 though?

You can use it as a backup, clone the bare essentials, i.e. your OS and programs onto it and leave it in storage. If your laptop goes crazy then you can swap HDs and recover data from the other. You need the USB enclosure first though.

Yeah I'd recommend the same considering we are talking about a laptop here. I thought he had a laptop drive, which I've managed to mount in a normal ATX case using long screws before.

Since its not been mentioned so far...

You could always buy an external casing for it, one for a 2.5" drive is 10-15 pounds, which'll allow you to connect it via a usb and/or firewire port.

Im talking about taking one out then putting the other in, all in one laptop. I dont think it will fit in a PC, differant kind of connector, its not like a PC harddrive, its alot smaller.

Are you talking about swapping hard drives in the laptop, or is it just a laptop hard drive that you happen to be using in a desktop? It's rather unusual to just have one hard drive slot.

Most laptop drives are 2.5" instead of the regular 3.5" however.

Its a laptop harddrive, and there is only one slot for the harddrive to go in.
(ive just realised ive been doing tags wrong, oh well)

So unless there is another way to fit it that i dont know about, i dont think i have fit them at the same time.

Probably windows for both.

How come you can't fit both hard drives at once?

Im not really a fan of linux, dont hurt me and i dont really want to sell it, and using it as storage is pretty hard because i cant use the harddrives at the same time.

I was thinking of one for my webdesign/graphics design work, and one for just talking to people on msn, downloading music, maybe some games, etc.

What OS would you suggest for both of those?
