See, I thought it was my Mobo, but, stupidly, I hadn't checked the CPU that was causing problems.
So, upon examination, I see the corner pin (oposite to the corner without pins) is bent. And I try to bend it back - hey, it's already borken, what's the worst that can happen? - and it snaps off.
Well OK then, silly me, but er... Now what?
My £160 P4 isn't too lightly broken.
Aparently I could fill in the slot with a small piece of metal - a clipping of some sort - but I can't find any small enough.
And ideas?

Connected just the PSU and Mobo, took the mobo out of the case, then...
Nada.
If you've still got the pin try straightening it up and placing it in the correct hole in the socket. Then steadily place the cpu back in and lock it. Hopefully you'll manage to connect the pin back up to the cpu.
