So my sack o crap PC needs upgrading. I'm seriously interested in a Maxxxxxxxxxxx PC, despite this oh so favourable review (on this site) :

"Onto using it, it is not perfect as it does crash as often as any other computer but it is great for surfing the net and watching pictures. This is definitely a multi-media computer it does all the stuff you want it to and is a good computer for the money and it should last for several years."

'Watching pictures'? I can only wonder why this individual is wasting his time on Personal Computers when he could be figuring out how the Universe started on Stephen Hawkings Astrophysics team.

So anyone gone for the 3400Mhz '4DV' model? Musings?

Get an LG LB1710B, cheap, but good.

Can I get one of these cheap-ass monitors?

I need a new 17"-19" TFT... But cheap!

Maxx PCs:

Fastest, priciest processor we could find!

Most expensive RAM combination on the planet!

No-one puts costlier graphics cards in their PCs!

Cheapest monitors known to mankind!

(not impressed)

but are you taking into consideration :

A) Credit (I can't afford to upgrade it all right away)
B) The fact that I don't have much time to put the thing together.
C) The time I do have I enjoy using up being a lazy mo fo and getting up to all kinds of ill sh**.

My computer is really on the edge of dying tonight, it took nearly 2 minutes to load this page. I know what it is - faulty memory. But rather than buy memory for an old chunk of crap I want to get me a spanking new monster of a PC.

You do pay through the nose for pre-made systems and I'm aware of the issues :

1) Quite often cheap parts are used (although I must say it really doesn't seem to be the case here)
2) They are usually un-upgradable in that you need to buy a new motherboard because you want to fit a new soundcard etc.
3) They are prone to crashing just as much as any other PC.
4) It'll be worth nothing by the time you've made the last payment on it.
5) The software bundles are usually gash, particularly the operating system (again, seems reasonable here though).

I just fancy replacing the whole lot. This computer is years old, to upgrade it properly I'd have to buy :

Motherboard
CPU
Loads of Memory
Bigger Hard Drive
GFX Card
Soundcard
Tower
Monitor
Keyboard/Mouse
DVD RW Drive

All in all, it's basically a full system I'd be putting together, and I just don't have the cash available at the moment. Plus I can't be arshed with the hassle of setting it all up (despite being a techie at heart).

So, feel free to laugh at me, I don't blame you, but I think my mind is made up.

You could probably build the same thing cheaper yourself, and with a TFT monitor.
