I've currently got a RAID array setup with 2x 160GB S-ATA drives. It's the mirrored type. But I've nearly run out of disk space - got about 13GB left and that won't be there for long. How do I go about running the two discs as individual disks again and not in a RAID array but without having to format?

They were labelled as follows:

RAID: PRI_SATA, SEC_ATA
Standard: SATA_1, S_ATA,2

I moved PRI_SATA to SATA_1 and moved SEC_ATA to SATA2

Is the primary drive that you booted the OS to in SATA slot 1 on the Motherboard?

I tried deleting the array and then moving my drives from the RAID controller to the standard S-ATA sockets on the motherboard. The BIOS recognises them, I set it to boot from one of the disks, but when it boots, it says "Error loading operating system". Any ideas? I've rebuilt the array for the mean time so I can continue using my PC.

Yeah, I know I can just remove a disk and it will work OK. But at the same time, every time I boot up, I get a message saying the state of the RAID array is Critical.

What did you build a RAID1 setup for if you don't know how to recover it from a disk failure? You should be able to take one of the disks and burn it, and still have all your data left. Look at the options in your RAID's setup menu - you will typically get the chance to enter this once the BIOS check has finished.

I'm not sure. I don't wanna try anything until I know what I'm doing cos I can't back up all my data anywhere, and I'm away from home so I don't have all the CDs I need.

Can't you just delete the raid array, wipe one of the drives and connect it as a normal secondary hard drive?
