It is a simile, it's just not a very good one.
It could have been better worded too.

But yeah, jsut about anything with "like" used as an adjective is a simile.

His baldy nappa was like a shiny plate.

And Azul, wording doesn't matter - although 'As if' OR 'Like' are the only two phrase/words that I can think of.

But surely just saying "this is rubbish like this particular thing is" isn't?

Comparing/Likening something to something else. Ergo, simile.

Why isn't it? I'm confused
