Hmm, longhorn is going to be "a series of products" is it, sounds like one product spilt into lots of products that cost a lot more than they should

Longhorn could just be the codename for all of Microsoft's future developments (Windows, Office, etc) which all use a fresh underlying technology.
I haven't been following it so wouldn't know a thing myself, but I don't think Microsoft would split Windows alone into segments just for profit, as I don't believe people would be suckered into such a thing. Windows XP is fine, so it wouldn't give people a reason to update.
