I bought something from Lik-Sang.com in July - they're based in Hong Kong.

The goods came by DHL and there was no customs charges. Result. Or so I thought.

I received a letter/invoice from DHL on Saturday charging me NO customs, NO import Tax but £10.72 VAT of said goods bought back in July.

Can they do this to me? Charge me so long after I received my goods?

I don't want to pay them if I don't have to, but I don't want to ignore it and get landed with a Court appearance date.

Please help, thanks

As it is VAT then the answer is a very probable yes.

I'd look at it this way: Pay the £10 or face court fee's and crap + loads of hassle, I'd pay it, then never use them agian :P

Yes they can. I happens quite often so I think it has to do with how they handle their own VAT accounting.

Ignore it at your peril or ring them and ask them to clarify what exactly it is about :)

Play it along as long as you can, until they give up/threaten with court.

So would I get away with not paying them since it's their mistake? Or do they still have a case?

They funked up.

They want you to pay for their mistake.

If you think you paid VAT when you bought the item, then there's no reason I can think of that you would need to pay this. Just leave it for a while, and if its urgent they'll send a reminder of some sort. Then you can sort it out. If not then it was a mistake on their behalf.
