I'm as gullible as anyone of buying a DVD that I probably rate only as average if it is suplemented by lots of added goodies.
Manufacturers are all too aware of this and in a desperate attempt to prise us from our money, are throwing in all manner of 'special' features. The most annoying thing about this is that six months after you've bought a DVD, additional material is miraculously unearthed, calling for 'The Ultimate' version or the directors cut or the wardrobe lady's mother's dog's favourite bits! When is it all going to stop? And, at the end of the day, how many people actually sit down and watch ninety six hours worth of behind the scenes interviews with the tea lady? I don't. In fact, I very rarely check out more than the occasional deleted scene, which incidentally, I think they only cut from the original film so that they can use it as an extra.
I think it's about time an effort was made to reduce the cost of DVD's to finally put the ailing video to bed and maybe getting rid of a few unwanted and irrelevant extras might just be the way to do it.
