Button takes a comfortable win but which team took the title?

Jenson Button took the win at a rain soaked Monaco in the final round of the SR F1 season. Surprisingly, there were very few mistakes even with the treacherous conditions. Unsurprisingly, there was little overtaking on the tight and twisty Monaco track.

The only incident in the first 10 laps was Sato holding up a lighter fueled Raikkonen. Raikkonen managed to squeeze his way by after about 7 laps. Montoya had lost a place to Button off the start but his race was over early, when his left rear suspension failed on lap 11. Would this affect Williams chances of the title?

Bruni ended his debut season in disappointing fashion when his transmission failed on lap 15. Bruni has contributed to a fairly successful season for Jaguar.

More drama for the Constructors Championship happened on lap 21, when Pantano's engine let go. Was Button's victory going to be enough?

Villeneuve had contributed heavily to Ferrari's best season in the 3 years of the SR F1 Championship but his over pushing forced him to crash out of the race on lap 45 on those unforgiving barriers. Villeneuve, one of SR F1's most successful drivers, will be pleased to have given Ferrari their first win this season. That accident meant Ferrari could not win the title.

Raikkonen's challenge faded after choosing an aggressive multiple stop strategy where wet weather should force all the teams to do less stops. Then the final incident of the race ended Sauber's hopes of Constructors glory. Heidfeld's car ground to a halt on lap 64 with transmission problems.

So which team won the Constructors Championship?

Button gives B.A.R 10 points for the victory and that win gave him the runners up spot in the Drivers Championship. Sato ended the season like he started it with a decent race and 2nd place. Pizzonia gives Renault 6 points for 3rd place. Ralf Schumacher gives Williams 5 points for 4th place. Da Matta avoids last place in the Drivers Championship in the last race with 5th place. Barrichello gives Renault 3 points for 6th. Minardi's come in 7th and 8th, with Baumgartner ahead of Verstappen.

Adding up the points, the Constructors Champions are...

RENAULT!

Congratulations to Renault on winning the Constructors Championship!

PREDICTION WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

It was the last chance to move up in the table. Only 6 got their predictions in. That means there will be 2 extra points for the being the closest to the tie breaker and 1 extra point for being the second closest. Here's the results for Round 18:

1st Chris 10pts (27pts - 14 point difference)
2nd Mike Swade 8pts (17pts)
3rd Badgerman 6pts (12pts - 7 point difference)
4th Der Nazi 5pts (11pts - 6 point difference)
5th Ineedsleep 4pts + 2pts (10pts - 4 point difference) - THE CLOSEST
6th Biggie Little 3pts + 1pt (6pts - 5 point difference) - Runner up

Chris correctly guessed that B.A.R would score the most points in the race and that Button would win the race. Der Nazi guessed that B.A.R would score the most points. Mike Swade correctly guessed that Montoya would be the first retirement. Congratulations to them!

The final Prediction Championship table looks like this:

1st Der Nazi - 112pts (4 wins) - WORLD CHAMPION
2nd Ineedsleep – 97pts (1 win)
3rd Chris – 83pts (4 wins)
4th Mike Swade – 79pts (2 wins)
5th Foreman – 77pts (3 wins)
6th Jae – 71pts (2 wins)
7th Badgerman – 63pts (1 win)
8th Biggie Little – 53pts (1 win)
9th Absolut Neo – 14pts
10th Azul – 11pts
11th RoJ – 8pts
12th Virtuoso – 7pts
13th Icarus – 6pts
14th Wakka – 4pts
15th Notorious Biggles – 1pt

On that note, the season ends. Thank you for playing the Prediction Championship, thank you for supporting your teams and drivers and thank you for not making me feel like I was posting for nothing. :)

In my eyes, every regular participant this season is a winner. Congratulations to Der Nazi on winning the Prediction Championship, meaning he gets to hold the Drivers Championship too. Congratulations also to Icarus and Lipe for winning the Constructors Championship.

Thank you all again and maybe I'll see some of you again next season!

Unlucky that Pantano's engined failed, 'cause BAR may have got the team championship. Also I did well to get 3rd in the predicters league as I joined quite late, I am pleased with my self.

And thanks to Grandprix for running SR F1.

Button's end of season charge came a bit oo late for my liking: Had it started a few races earlier, he may well have been champion. But there's always next year, I guess. I'm happy with 2nd for Button, and 1st in the prediction championship by 15 points. Overall champion? I guess that befits my position here! :)

Thanks for running a great championship yet again, GP.

Nope, thank you for all the effort you put into these.

Are you sure you will not take a cheque for tweaking Raikkonens performance for next season?

Damn! You're too honest :)

Why is Montoya so annoying? Good grid positions regularly, and then never finishing. Grrr.
