"Will a new 800MHz Celeron CPU go in my old mainboard?"

Hi ppl, my PC is currently running a Celeron 333MHz CPU. It needs upgrading and so I was wondering if one of these so-called re-designed Celeron 800MHz CPU's with its 100MHz bus speed will fit straight into my old motherboard? Does anyone know? Can anyone help?

Quick check and no, sorry, the VL-601 is limited to Celerons up to 333mhz.

As I said, you're probably best off upgrading your motherboard and processor together, and going for a mid-high range Duron for the same price as a celeron.

I'd very much doubt it, although it's impossible to say without the product code of your current motherboard. Any diagnostics program from download.com should be able to tell you that.

It seems unlikely, as your current motherboard is probably running at 100mhz with a 3.3x multiplier. This would require an 8x multiplaier for a 100mhz celeron, and I'm not aware of any motherboard around the time of the Celeron 333 that are capable of doing that.

If you can find the manufacturer and model of your motherboard, I can tell you for sure, but otherwise you're probably better off buying a new mobo + cpu set, I'd recommend an AMD Duron over a Celeron, both on price and performance.
You should be able to pick up an 800mhz version for around £50.
