It's far too early for the next gen. We don't need it until at least mid-2006.

And yes, the whole '3 flavours' idea is a little stupid, but it means people can save money if they don't want the HD.
But it will no doubt spawn a breed of ubern00bs coming here and whining at how they can't save to HD when their Mothers bought them the basic model.

As long as they don't overcharge on the mid-model, I shouldn't be too bothered.

Especially when they're apparently releasing 3 different types of Xbox Next.

Xbox Next with a Hard drive included.
Xbox Next without a Hard drive included.
Xbox Next as a computer, but with exactly the same gaming capabilities.

Stuuuupid.

my guess is that if the XB2 is released at the end of this year, it'll go the way of the Dreamcast.

I don't think it will arrive any earlier than mid-late 2006.

Late 2006 would be an interesting release date for the PS3. Because currently Xbox Next is on schedule for a release in the States before this year is out, giving Microsoft the kind of lead that Sony had with the PS2 before its competition was released.

Maybe then we'll see how effectively Sony can operate and get sales when (for once) being under pressure and releasing their console later than the competition.

Seems to be pencilled in for a showing at E3 this year, and perhaps a Japanese launch in 2006. Likely to be late 2006 or later in this country I guess. What worries me is the level of "onlineness" or "onlineity", both of which are silly words, but the point is that I doubt I'll want a console based mainly around online play.

It already annoys me when games have online content because I always wonder if there are portions of the game I'm missing. If its just online deathmatches and races etc... using only the stuff you can do in the two player mode or single player game, then I don't care, but if there are secret online bits of the game... meh!
