I know, I know, thousands of Iraqi civilians have died in the 'fog of war', and through thoughtless military decisions. But this case is different - she was out there specifically to help them, and was quite a high profile aid worker. Now there's a new tape of her begging for her life - a'la Ken Bigley - so we all know where this one is heading (no pun intended), and there's nothing we can do. It's quite an odd feeling, made worse by the fact that there was some hope for Bigley at first. I guess it's a glimpse of the mindset of these fanatics and their causes. Ironically, they probably have lived off aid at some point (given the mess that we caused out there), so I don't understand what their angle is on this. Foreigners, eh...?
Thing is the mentality isn't 'Westerners and Us'. It's 'Westerners and anyone who's the same nationality as us can be killed because they are all under the influence of Westerners'.

Can you imagine the terror you'd feel if you were kidnapped, slung in a empty room, and then your kidnappers slung you an orange boiler suit... doom.
I must say I genuinely had a sleepless night when Bigley was the only one left of the three. Knowing that in all likelihood you are going to be beheaded by a shortsword wielded by a religious fanatic - what anguish.
Hopefully Hassan has just been taken by opportunist bandits looking for a ransom.

It actually made me quite angry. I felt sorry for Bigley for a second or two but it was partially his fault.
I don't see how they could kill a woman that is more Iraqi than British.
