Err... going back a few steps...

The two newest series of Red Dwarf I have not liked at all. I'm a much larger fan of the old ones, I much prefered it when there was little more than just talking.

Out of interest, Michael Corleone, why do you have the word "moderator" as your tagline?

The bit about having an a-level in english was a light-hearted end to the disussion. I'm not going to start a "my dad's better than yours" argument cheers.

Not unless it's in shorthand speeds, where my mighty big 60 words per minute rules!!!!

I know what irony and sarcasm are as well.

And whats this toes to toes idea about? Sounds a bit saucy.

Dude, if you want to go toe to toe with qualifications, bring it on.

And, considering the whole of post was irony, read it back.

Sarcasm can only really be determined through the tone of a persons voice.

Monkey Man could have been really stupid and actually thought "smeg" was funny - hence a reason to doubt the sarcasm. Just like people who laugh at the name Mr P Nesshead.

But it would be reasonable to assume a fairly solid level of intelligence for someone able to breakdown the evolutionary boundaries and use the name 'Monkey Man.'

So you're in the lead so far monkey.

Now theres goatboy, whose name frails in comparison to be honest. First the use of goat - an image only really intensified by satanic connotations, although still not good enough to beat monkey - because I'm an athiest.

And secondly you attempted to correct Monkey man on his point about sarcasm. Claiming it was infact irony - bad move. You obviously didn't quite achieve GCSE english.

Sorry - that was harsh, I take that back.

So Monkey Man wins it, and no one is allowed to insult or argue with me, just because I have A-level english too, so am offcially "The DADDY!"

Wheres your tool?!

A no-smoking sign...on your cigarette break.

And yes I know that song is a list of bummers more than irony.

Thing is, there isn't anything sarcastic or ironic in either the heading or posting.

I'm not trying to start a flame war with you, just saying that I didnt get any sense of irony or sarcasm from it.

That's all

No, sarcastic. I was right the first time. I'd use swear words to emphasise just how unfunny red dwarf is, but I'm not allowed to. I once sat and counted the number of times 'smeg' was said in an episode (not my fault - it was someone else's house) I got to 18. They even had it in massive letters at the end because it was the last episode.

Ironic would be something that happens that bears uncanny resemblance to the opposite of something that could've happened resulting in a comical situation. Hey you were right after all - Red Dwarf COULD have been funny...

..but it wasn't.
