The title says it all, really.

I have so many problems with our network - does anyone have any tips for keeping it running smoother? Firstly, the computers do not know they're connected to each other - it says it's connected to "any" and not the name of the other computer. Also, I have many signal problems, and when I repair the link, it says that the ISP address could not be renewed.

Anyone who can help can have the satisfaction of saving someone from the men in white coats, and also my gratitude.

Thankyou.

Are you near anyone else who maybe running a wireless network? They could be interfering with your signal as well.

The signal issues could be due to interference from things like cordless phones, microwaves, nearby networks or from walls/other large dense objects in between the PC and the router.

Right, well since you do have a router, then you won't see the name of the other computer, because you don't connect to it, you connect to the router.

Without knowing what type of router it is I can't give you specific help, but generally you set routers up via a browser window. Just set things to automatic and it should renew the IP address.

Er.. ok, I'll do my best.

Yes, they are both running Windows XP. The wireless network uses a router (if by that you mean the little aerial thinge on my window sill), and not a wireless card.

To help you I need to know things about the setup.

Are both computers running Windows? If so, what versions? Is this an ad-hoc network, in other words two computers with wireless cards connected to each other, or is it a fixed network with a wireless router and/or access point?

What hardware is used?

The coolest ISP ever!
In my opinion, the ISP is the best I have ever used. They guarantee 'first time connection - everytime', which they have never let me down on.
