I want to set up an ever-so-simple wireless network between this PC and my brothers'.

All I want to be able to do, is share an Internet Connection (connected via a USB BB modem, if that matters) and share files. Sharing a printer and the ability to play games against each other would be a nice bonus, but aren't that important.

I have £50 to spend.

What shall I buy?

I use a Netgear wireless external router.
No need to keep a pc on, either have instant entry to your broadband.

Abit more than £50 more like £130 for complete equipment for wireless network and connection sharing.

Set up so easy even I done it.

Yeah it should work alright. Of course it means one PC will need to be on all the time, which also means the obligatory pimp for http://ukchatforums.reserve.co.uk/display_messages.php?threadid=83829&forumid=4006

And of course you need Live.

Set one up myself on sunday.

Master - Desktop Asus a8v wireless 802.11g motherboard.
Slave - Laptop with Belkin pcmcia wireless adapter. (25.99 from Argos. SR is cheaper, but I was in the store)

Set up a workgroup, and both talked to each other immediately.

A bit dissapointing really, I was expecting to spend at least a few hours getting it working. ;)

All you need are two wireless network cards. You could either get one that fits in the PC to a PCI slot (around £15) or a USB wireless adapter (around £20). Only thing with that is it will require you to have the computer with the broadband modem attached to it on all the time.

It also means you have no excuse not to get back on Live.

EDIT - if you are both running Windows XP it is a breeze. If one of you is on older Windows then check the card runs with it before hand. Some are picky.
