I have been happy with my 3200+ up until now, i have just started doing Seti again and it’s taking hours to process the units. I know it should be doing them just under three hours, but I’m taking around 8 hours. I currently have 768mb of ram. 1x512 1x256 both running at 333 MHz but the 512 is capable of 400mhz. could the memory be bottlenecking the system and is it worth sacrificing the 256 for the CPU and ram to run in sync. I have the Pcchips m848a http://uk.special.reserve.co.uk/q_GG8965_pc_chips_motherboa.html
It should run at 400DDR but in the manual it says it may run unstable, what does it mean by this, will sizzle or will it just reboot.

Nah I had the CPU was running a 3200+ all along at 400MHZ I was just told it would make your pc more efficient if you had the memory and CPU in sync. I took the 256 out and ran the 512 at 400MHZ. No noticeable differences just an extra 30 points in pcmark 2004 and an extra 10 on 3dmark 2005.

BTW The pcchips board is running fine at DDR400 so I recommend it for anyone building a budget AMD pc.

If you are running with the RAM at 333 MHz, then chances are you've successfully underclocked the 3200XP to a 2500XP. Most people work it the other way around. You could try upping the FSB in the BIOS from 166 MHz to 200 MHz, which is the rated speed, and which should work, at least for the 512 MB stick. The 256 MB stick may work, more likely not, but worth a shot. You may have to raise the voltage to the memory in the BIOS as well.

Its says the board may be unstable running the chip at it's designed speed? I knew PC Chips were pants, but i didnt know they were that pants.
