Sigh.

I'm currently very very annoyed.

At college, I was doing my A2 Level Computing coursework, and when it came to the end of the lesson, I decided to send it home. Seeing as e-mail is usually untrustworthy with attachments, I decided to send it to two different places for backup reasons.

My gmail account and my Hotmail account.

When I got back.

"Hotmail has permanently blocked the following potentially unsafe attachment(s): LakeviewReportsSystem.mdb"

Yeah, Unsafe, that's right, my innocent college coursework is potentially unsafe, so they have blocked it, because it "might be unsafe".

What kind of anally retentive person made that crappy idea up? Isn't it easier for the USER to CHOOSE if they want to download the file or not? Over patronising piece of rubbish.

And to make things worse, gmail doesn't even accept the file, it just posts back undelivered.

How gay, Now I have to wait until tomorrow to get some important work done that needs to be handed in on Friday.

Great.

In future, just zip things in an archive and they'll be fine. Or like I suggested, send to a non-hotmail account and it'll be fine.

Same messages appears on both.

The file in question is a Microsoft Access File, which (ironically) hotmail perceives as unsafe.

They're not going to start charging til next April. When they do, I should hopefully have my own webmail system ready.

THis could possibly have something to do with M$ now charging for accessing hotmail through Outlook/Outlook Express

Heh, we have an online drive at uni. Whatever work you save locally at the uni labs, you can access direct from home on the web. The utimate in convenience.

I backup stuff though just in case.

I had the same problem as well. Someone had emailed me an exe file but Outlook Hotmail wouldn't let me access the attachment because it was "Level 1 Unsafe" - if it had been Level 2 it would have let me choose. Hotmail web site wouldn't let me access it either.

However, using either Outlook or Hotmail directly, you can forward it to another address and it will send the attachment with it. So I forwarded it to my own email address (not Hotmail) and used my webmail to download it. Try that if you want to get it.
