My previous post, entitled 'French', inspired me to write this. I get the feeling that no one else on these forums goes to or has been to a grammar school. I'm not saying that because I think you're all thick, infact I think the majority of you are very intelligent and a lot of you appear to be at collage or university and that is why I'm questioning the point of a grammar school.
The school is an all boys school but girls are allowed to enter the sixth form. That obviously makes socialising with the opposite sex more difficult than it should be. The girl's school is just down the road but they only ever visit to use the tennis courts (and they play netball on them!?). Also, the system for allowing people to enter does have its faults. It's basically an IQ test but it's multiple choice so a bit of luck can get you in. The other day, someone said that lions lay eggs and they weren't joking. Real retards get into the school and from what I can tell, all of the people on these forums are much more intelligent than most of the people I know. Then there is the length of the school day; 9:00am-4:00pm. Every other school in the area finishes at 3:00pm or 3:30pm. This is no advantage to us, especially when we get much more homework than people in other schools.
I believe that comprehensive schools give a better education because from them you are able to socialise with a wider range of people, still get good qualifications and have more time of your own to learn about the big wide world.

I do find that a lot of the teachers are quite funny but then there are always the odd few. My IT teacher resorts to jokes about not being able to access microsoft access.

I go to a grammar school, and we don't work any longer hours than any others school, from 9ish to 3.40. All the comps in my area are filled with chavs, so
not a difficult choice really. I'm just glad I don't have a naff uniform. Thinking of going to southend sixth form college though, as I don't really consider myself "Oxbridge Material".

The difference between a comp and a grammar:

grammar teachers tell funnier jokes.

People who are against Grammar Schools generally don't really know what they're talking about.

First of all, they're state schools/public schools/whatever - so there's no reason why you'd find any more "rich snobs" there than anywhere else. Secondly, a lot of them are mixed gender.
