I bought XP which was installed on a new computer. The mobo then failed on that computer so had to be replaced. The new mobo then had trouble with the hard drive so I had to install XP again. All is working fine except for the XP activation aspect. Obviously, since it was acitvated before, the code won't be accepted now. So is that it now? It can't be activated?

And what actually happens when the amount of days telling you how long is left to activate gets to 0? I'm guessing my computer will explode killing anyone in a 10 mile radius....

I had the same problem just a few days ago, turns out you have to ring up the number they give you on the activation program and let the menu run through twice and it puts you through to a real person, explain your problem to them and theyll give you the code
[I]or you could get an illegal cracking program off the net, im sure you can find one on www.surpnova.org

I did this the other day, when you ring up, you just get put onto a system robot thing. You key in your serial number, and it says the activation code back to you, it's all automated.

I found the info on the MS site:

"Q. How many times can I activate my software?

A. You can activate your licence as often as you like, as long as you have a genuine reason for doing so."

Now I just need to know where to tell them the computer semi-imploded.

I hope I don't have to ring anybody. This is stupid, you'd think it'd be designed to work with people who want to/have to format their hard drive.

This is more hassle than having an illegal copy.

I think you can ring up, can't you? Or have it connected to the 'net when you try to activate, and it sorts it out.
