Just got a 400w atx supply & a new motherboard. The power unit has 2 power leads - the standard 20 pin & a square white 4 pin (the manual calls it a +12v).
The board takes both but which one (or both) do I use ?

Thanks - Tab.

They are there so that the system gets a high enough current on the 12V line. If it just used the 12V pin in the standard 20 pin connector it would be pushing too many amps through the wire and it would spontaneously combust.

I just meant was it the same spec ! I know it's different ! I buy AMD's cos they're cheaper, but just as quick !

Just wondered if an AMD 2800XP was the same 'spec' as a 2800 pentium (ie a P4 !) If so, I'll plug them both in ! If not, will it damage the AMD ?

The chip is an AMD 2800 - is this the 'same' as a Pentium 4 ? ? ?

You have to plug both in, im guessing its a pentium then, one is standard atx and one is extra for the cpu i think(please correct if im wrong) but you definatly have to plug both of them in
