I have to say, the whole concept of movies being produced on high budgets based around successful video games doesn't exactly thrill me. The reason being the complete and utter trash that was presented to us in the license of games such as "Mario Bros", "Street Fighter" and "Double Dragon" in the past decade. Not only were these movies a total waste of time and 'effort', but in my view they tarnished their respective franchises.
And now into the Millennium, three milestones in gaming history are to be transformed into blockbuster movies by the end of the year, and I have to say my expectations are a little higher than I would have thought. I've followed closely the happenings of the three movies, and I have to say they are shaping up really nicely. Of course I'm no journalist behind the scenes of these movies, just a curious fan like yourself, but from what I've seen and read online regarding these films has hugely impressed me.
First off we have "Tomb Raider", the most promising of the three, solely because of its budget, fan base and genre. I have to say, I'm very Anti-Lara Croft and the fact that this fictional cyber character has actually become a pin up across the world makes me sick. And not being a fan of the games I find myself wanting to hate this upcoming film. But introduce Angelina Jolie, a very promising young attractive actress, throw in an action packed plot supported by a high budget, and all of a sudden I'm highly anticipating this to be one of the movies of the summer. What I will do is approach the screening of "Tomb Raider" not as a fan of the game, but an optimistic movie fan who expects to see this to set the trend for video game to movie conversions. This is MY pick of the bunch.
"Resident Evil", well what can I say about this? I am the biggest RE fan out there, I have all the games in the series and a ton of dorky posters in my room. So I was quite understandably annoyed when I learnt of the script that had been thought up for this movie. Some gibberish along the lines of a special military unit attempting to disarm a super computer, what a bunch of trash. Paul Anderson of all people actually produced this script, the guy who created by far the the best video game based movie ever (Mortal Kombat), and why? Because he stayed true to the game and gave the fans what they wanted! So why the different approach to us faithful RE followers? That's a question I would love to pose to the guy. But in all fairness, a whole host of RE footage and images have been released onto the net recently, and I have to say it looks promising. And I will give credit when it's due, Anderson has taken this seemingly shoddy idea of a script and made me take a complete 180 in terms of my feelings towards the project. He's doing everything to the best of his abilities and has even forced the entire zombie cast to endure a hectic two week training schedule in a combat school to prepare for the fight scenes. Interesting.
Additionally the Final Fantasy movie looks nothing short of stunning, it will surely set the standards for future anime movies. I really cannot see how any of these films will fail considering they are all based around a younger audience (yes even RE), I fully expect their fan base to see each respective movie to the box office prime spots. What do you think? What movie are you most anticipating this year? Give me some feedback!

The house will be controlled by a super computer and the dudes will be battling against electronically controlled things, whether this includes people (androids) or toasters is yet to be seen. A good boss may include a deep fat frier which dribbles and spits at it's foes! I am not joking either.
Tomb Raider looks cool but I just expect a Indiana Jones and Matrix cross over with some pretty faces and lame acting (Angelina Jolie with an English accent?).
