A bit of nostalgia for those of you who remember Hexen.
I recommend downloading the movie on there, quite impressive.
The more I see the various mods coming out for Doom 3, the more I realise what a terrible job I.D. did of showing off their own technology.

Fair enough, poor choice of wording on my part.
I'll admit to being a little edgy today too. :)

Sorry, but the "And what was wrong with the outdoor environments there exactly? Obviously you're seeing (or not seeing) something I don't about it." came across as a little petulant and defensive. If it wasn't intended to be I apologise.
Anyway, the video clearly shows the engine stutters quite badly while the player is outdoors. When the player is in the section mentioning "ambient light", it's substantionally better. Quite simple really, and offering a far better initial indication of engine performance and limitations than a static screenshot.....
Oh, and distance fogging?................
Anyhoo, that's all I've got to say on this title until I can play a version.
Adiós.

Which is fair enough. However I think its worth pointing out that its an 320 x 240 AVI you've watched with a frame rate thats got little to do the game peformance and is maxed at 25 fps anyway. You may just as well look at a screenshot and comment on the frame rate.

They slow down appallingly. They look very poor. To be honest, the video looks like it could have been made two or three years back with a more primitive engine.
Sorry. I said it was my opinion, it aint going to change. It's pointless you getting all huffy about it......

And what was wrong with the outdoor environments there exactly? Obviously you're seeing (or not seeing) something I don't about it.

Ohhh, not impressed to be honest. It looks like an amatuer mod, the engine cant handle outdoor environments very well at all, and I just got a general impression of mediocrity. I can see why Doom3 was set mostly in the darkness, as full bright lighing just looks poor. I have to disagree with you Garin on this one, Doom3 showed off the tech perfectly, it just didn't piggyback an exciting game. Perhaps a professional developer will make good use of the engine. I want to see System Shock 3 using it (yes, I know Bioshock is in ev, but it uses the tribes engine)
*shrug* my opinion only.

Direct link to it, also on fileplanet too.

Yup, and to further confuse things, it's developed by Raven, the guys that did the original hexen, and it's a sequel to Quake 2.
iD have nothing to do with it apart from the engine license.
Memories...
