Well of course not in my view. If we take the releases of Quake 2 / Quake 3, those games were action packed, but they were out at a time when the internet had few people and most people went on at 6pm every day, there was no "free" internet access.
So therefore the community within Quake 2 was established, we saw it all, but however when Counter Strike was out, it came out and sparked at a time when the internet was seeing a great boom, so most people went to the latest game.
But what is counter-strike?
Counter-Strike has 2 teams, so you basically gotta kill the other team or complete a mission objective
For example:
Terrorists may have to:
* Prevent Hostages escaping
* Assassinate the VIP
* Blow up a target with C4
Counter Terrorists may have to:
* Rescue hostages
* Prevent Bomb from exploding
* Protect the VIP
* Kill all terrorists
Sounds great does it.. but why do people repeativly shout CS is rubbish etc...
Well here is the reason why
CHEATS
The biggest thing which most people hate is the cheating aspects involved in the game.
It is simply no longer a game for fun:
I draw your attention to the CS cup on Clanbase (www.clanbase.com)
A person connected to a server and used a wallhack, was found out and banned from the league and his clan consequently left the cup.
Thats 1 person, is that all? Are you telling me 1 person out of say a hudge community dont cheat.
I believe most people cheat nowdays, there are easy hacks to get around many protection such as punkbuster, easily people using different skins, noone plays standard CS anymore, they just cheat to win.
Therefore I believe that the future of CS will end shortly, it will suffer a decline, people are going around cheating to win and we are just geting abuse loads of it!
There is paranoia around the whole world at the moment, noone is sure that another clan didnt cheat!
Come to think of it, there are some servers now that insist you have the PunkBuster script installed before you can play there, so that no-one can cheat.
