Rubens Barrichello has taken pole position for the Italian Grand Prix as he continues his late charge for the title. It's his 2nd pole position in a row, his 3rd pole position of the season and his 3rd front row start in 4 races.
It was a pretty dismal day on the track with rain playing havoc with the times. It also played havoc with the Championship leaders. Baumgartner and Salo will both start on the back row, giving hope to the chasing pack.
If Baumgartner doesn't score points in the race, it's an important race for Raikkonen, M Schumacher, Pantano, De La Rosa, Heidfeld, Sato, Fisichello and Pizzonia as the majority of them need to score big points to stay in the title picture.
The chasing pack had mixed fortunes. Villeneuve needs to keep scoring points but 14th might make that difficult. Barrichello starts on pole position, Button starts 8th for the second race in a row, Ralf Schumacher starts 9th and Montoya will be hoping for a nice points haul from 5th.
Barrichello on pole position should make the Championship leaders sit up and take notice, while Bruni in 2nd is an unknown quantity and has been known to take cars out. Heidfeld continues his end of season run with 3rd and Firman has found his form, albeit late, with 4th. Montoya starts 5th alongside Michael Schumacher in 6th. Fisichella and Button start 7th and 8th respectively as a number of drivers need points in the race.

The 'wonders' of modern technology eh? :)
Thank you.

Damn those tracks! =D
As for Button in qualifying, I would guess that what has happened is that he doesn't get the fastest time when he goes around the track. :)
