Only reason I'd buy Forza would be to get a Mini Cooper, kit it out with a crazy body kit and the biggest engine I could find. Then paint swear words on the side of it, take it online and drive it into everyones high performance cars at high speeds.

Driving games of this type intrest me very little.

Most of the screenshots are taken from by the mags/websites themselves, who would not have the ability to adjust resolution or frame-rate.

I suggest you check out some of the videos on various websites, or maybe even try playing GT4 Prologue in a shop to see just how smooth and fast it is.

There are a lot of screenshots which are taken using the game's 'photo' mode, which does generate hi-res screens which can be exported to PC. These are usually easily distinguishable from 'real' screenshots, though, simply because they feature cars which are parked and not in race situations.

You obviously haven't played Prologue. Scraping a car didn't earn a penalty, you had to hit it with some force. You could still lean on them round the corners without penalty. Yes, it was annoying, but it has been removed from the full game, for exactly that reason.

Jagged? Err... yeah, right. One of the smoothest games on the machine, and better than anything previous on any platform.

You mean like the missing textures and pop-up in the Halo 2 cutscenes?

I have to say, GT4's looking a lot more appealing to me than Forza. As long as it doesn't end up like Concept or GT3 then it should be fantastic, although it'll have to do quite a lot to end up better than PGR2.

I may try Forza if I have soem spare cash, but at the moment I can't say it's looking at all special.

What I meant about frame rate was that the GT4 screen shots look like they've run at a high detail and low frame rate to take screenshots. It's happened before. It's also the only way the PS2 could produce as nice visuals as the GT4 screenshots suggest. Killzone looked great in the screens - it suffered from all sorts of issues in real life though. The GT4 screen shots look substantially better than Prologue, which was just stupid. 10 second penalty if you scrape another car? They managed to extract the fun from that.

GT3 did run at 60 fps, which almost made up for edges so jagged you could cut yourself on them. And we'll not even talk about the lack of focus.

The Forza screens that I've seen have matched GT4 screens, but the difference is I know the Xbox can actually produce those sorts of visuals in game. RalliSport Challenge 2 is a prime example.

As for the cars, well the last list I saw had Forza down as having more. Clearly it isn't now, although if you take out the different variations of the Honda Civic then I believe it probably would... Still, I know from experience from GT in the past that there are a bunch of rank cars that nobody will ever buy. Just no point.

Online play however is the clincher for me, so it is a big deal.

However, I'll give GT4 a go, it is one of the only games left on the PS2 that I'm interested in. I just think Forza will be better.

Both pale into insignificance compared to seeing Bizarre Creations advertise for car modellers on their website. Which I recon means PGR3 is in the works. And that's the best news this year so far.

This game is really good, but the graphics were no where near as good as the mags were making out + with there pics. I wish they would not do that. Anyway cannot wait cause I really want a new racing game.

Erm... no.

Frame rate has never been a problem in GT, so I don't know what you're on about there. Even GT3 ran at 60fps. GT4 Prologue shows that the game is clearer and better defined than ever before. Forza is locked at 30fps from what I've read today - but a stable 30fps is perfectly adequate.

> More cars, check.

More cars? Again, no. http://ps2.ign.com/articles/550/550814p1.html And that list is incomplete. 650 or so is the estimate - 700 mentioned elsewhere. Some repetition and varioation, sure - but still infinitely more than in Forza.

> More tracks, check.

Marginally. But it depends on how you look at it. According to this list - http://news.gaminghorizon.com/media/1102048957.html - there are 75. But look at how many are parts of the same or reverse tracks. Take them out and you're down to 27.

GT4 - http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=43917 - has at least 50, or 34 excluding variations.

> Online play, check.

I'll give you that one. A shame they took it out of GT4, but for me personally, not an issue.

> More tweakable, check.

Having played neither, I can't say. However, the tweaking availabe in the GT series has always been more than enough for me.

> Doesn't have stupidly long one hundred lap races, check.

Now that's just a matter of perference, and as such, irrelevant. It's a simulation, and real races don't last 4 or 5 laps. Personally, I dislike the PGR games for a similar reason - too many cones, not enough races. But as I said, that's opinion and not relevant.

> So that concludes reasons why Forza Motorsport > Gran Turismo 4 part one.

Didn't quite work out that, did it?

Still, as I said in an earlier post, Forza is looking quite tasty, and I'll be keeping an eye on it. I believe GT4 will be my favourite, but there's no reason I can't - or shouldn't - get both.
