Hey everyone. I'm not great with all this technical PC stuff so I reckon your knowledge could be of great use to me.
Basically, I am stuck in the past. We do not own a DVD player, and I really want one. So I will be buying one from SR, if you can help me.
I need to know of any good FREE software that rips DVDs onto your PC. I also need a good FREE (again) encoder. I have Nero Burning Rom 6.3 so I have the option to burn movies onto normal CD-Rs, but I need a way of gettin movies of a high quality onto the PC so I can back 'em up.

Use DVD decrypter to rip them to your PC.
Well if you want to fit a DVDR movie onto a CDR you will need to encode the movie to Xvid or DivX. In encoding the movie this way you will not be able to have any menus etc, it will just be the movie and thats it. Also the DVD player would not play these files unless you get a DVD player that actually supports Xvid/DivX.
If you really want to back up DVDs you need to get yourself a proper DVD burner.
