Then I click the Icon for Internet Explorer, the hour glass symbol appears, as though it is loading, then it disappears, and just sits there. It will sit there for about 2 or 3 minutes, as far as I can gather doing NOTHING. It doesn't matter how many times I click the icon, to run another instance of the program, it still sits there and waits.
And it isn't just with IE, it's with pretty much all my programs. This despite having run 'RegMechanic' several times and having defragmented my hard drives.
Then I finally get IE running, log on to this site and find that all the pages I'd previously viewed are now no longer highlighted, which would lead me to believe it has purged the temporary internet files and the history.
What the hell is going on? I do plan to update this thing, but at the moment I just can't afford. While I'm at it, there's another problem - when I first switch on my PC, it will begin to load as normal, but 9 times out of 10 the video doesn't initialise, as though the video card isn't seated in the slot properly. So I reset the machine (sometimes several times) and the video comes on, and works fine. I have took the thing to bits and the card is seated perfectly, so I have no idea what the crack is. The video never goes off while I'm using it, it's only when I first switch on, or sometimes when I reset it.
Has anyone had any similar problems? I'm close to booting the tower sometimes, especially when I'm in a hurry and need to use my computer for something urgent. I don't want to boot my tower, because my hard drives contain my music collection.

I'll look into it though.

I suggest turning all your IE settings back to default.
I remember how I solved the erasing "Temp files on startup" problem now. I switched to Firefox.

I had that problem a few times. I just waited a looong time before I got to work. I uninstalled Norton as that was causing trouble. What I would do is run msconfig and disable every check on the startup tab, and one at a time, reenable them to see what's causing the hold up.

Sounds like a power problem. I've heard of it when I used Shuttle PCs with a Radeon 9800 Pro; they just sucked up too much power at one time to prevent startup. Someone suggested a trick where you disconnect the GFX card until the BIOS appears onscreen, then plug it in, but I'm not recommending that. Try an alternative PSU, or powering up with the card.

iPod or Zen Touch.
