The people who vote for the Republicans (except the CEOs and rich kids) are the people who the Repbulicans effectively screw. Franks argues that the Republicans campaign for moral values (Pro-Life - but hey, execution isn't about life...'stopping' the decline of moral values, REAL AMERICANS, rather than 'namby-pamby Euro-American Liberals) and then, once in power, suddenly bring the magical economy (i.e, lower wages etc) to the fore, without a by-your-leave......because the people already gave them it. And yet, this isn't one off. It's happened consistently.
Apparantly 'Red Americans' (i.e TRUE US patriots......ironic they're 'Red' then, no?) are quite disgusted by the wishy washy liberals, who are apparantly ALL pretentious, ALL intellectual and ALL arrogant. Sure, some are. Some actually have compassion and brains, and yet their policies, which might really help said Middle Americans, are scorned upon! And yet these 'Reds' vote for the Republicans, who of course stand for good ol' Christian values. Then promptly f**k everybody over and ruin said voters livelihoods. And so it goes on.
Fascinating read. It's not the usual anti-Bush polemic. It's actually a very interesting argument trying to solve an extremely puzzling paradox.

Last night saw a documentary about Iraq. Apart from irritating ego-centric journo, twas good. The bit I remember most is a clip of a US soldier in a mess. On the radio (Freedom 107!) is the opening to Sleep Now In The Fire. Anyone who knows the lyrics will find that somewhat amusingly ironic.
