BAGGIES BAG EARNSHAW
by Peter O'Rourke - Last Updated 31 Aug 2004
"West Brom have completed the signing of Robert Earnshaw from Cardiff in a club record £3 million deal.
"The Welsh international has inked a three-year deal at The Hawthorns, with the option of another year, after passing a medical and agreeing
personal terms.
"West Brom boss Gary Megson has been chasing a new striker all summer to partner Kanu.
"After missing out on top targets Aruna Dindane and Sylvain Wiltord, Megson switched his attentions to Earnshaw.
"The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the best strikers outside the top-flight with his exploits at Cardiff.
"Charlton and Celtic had been linked with Earnshaw earlier in the summer, but West Brom have burst the bank to bring him to The Hawthorns.
"Cardiff could receive more money for Earnshaw with his price tag rising to £3.625 million depending on West Brom's success in The Premiership."

Like I said earlier; while he was gonna make the step-up sooner or later, it comes as a great surprise to see he's signed for West Brom, after all the other names we've seen mentioned in the past season or so.
£3m is not a bad price. Cardiff, being in the Coca-Cola Championship, could do quite a lot with it. Very few would be willing to spend near to even £5m on a player like him. So, Cardiff have done quite well in the deal, even though they've lost a prized asset or the team.
But, I suppose, with Kanu the only other "recognisable" name in their attack, they needed to find someone, somewhere, to compensate for the loss of drink-driving Lee Hughes.
What will Cardiff City do now?
Should Earnshaw have given it more time and waited for another move elsewhere?

Also according to SkySports, Japan's former Arsenal and Fulham midfielder Junichi Inamoto has also joined the 'The Baggies' in these final 24 hours of the Transfer Window.

Suddenly, after moving to Leeds, he managed to dissapear for a couple of season. Then, next thing I hear, he's being voted as the 'First Division's Player of the Season', having endured a succesfull loan period at Nottingham Forest.
And now, he's back in the Premiership again, with Norwich City.
Yet, why does he seem to be an even better player now than he ever really was before?
I know, he had talent during his days with Coventry, making quite a name for himself and nabbing a few 'Covee Break' ads. [Soccer AM ;) ]. But then, with a bigger move, he did seem to fade-away behind the likes of Harry Kewell, Michael Bridges, Alan Smith and then, Mark Viduka.
Not even a move to Man. City was quite enough to save him.
I guess he's always had the talent, though. Perhaps, with people like Michael Owen around, being also English, he just doesn't get the recognition at the levels where he really performs.
(Plus, he ALWAYS used to get in the England team on Champioship Manager!)
Cardiff now need to invest the money in some new players, soon. Noth had the best start to the season, and now lost there best player. If new players arent brought in, the fans will be far from pleased.
