I've recently installed some new hardware in my PC - a USB 2.0 PCI card.
I've reconnected my scanner - an Epson Perfection 1240 USB flatbed.
Each time I've re-attached, it's come up with the name and a number appended to the end... e.g. "Epson Perfection 1240U #2"
So I'm now up to "Epson Perfection 1240U #3"
I've tried renaming it to get rid of the "#3" but it won't let me, saying that they already exist. Clearly I only have one scanner attached, so I don't know why it's doing this.
I've tried uninstalling through Device Manager, and even removed the drivers and re-installed completely.
The only thing I can think of doing now is removing the names from the Registry, but I don't know where to look.
Any help gratefully received. I'm running Windows XP Home.
