Real Madrid's match is currently under way with Owen on the bench and Woodgate still not fit. Liverpool and Bolton faced off at the Reebok Stadium today with the commentators obviously focusing on the Spanish contingent of Liverpool's side, with Alonso, Garcia and Josemi all starting, Nunez injured and another 2 Spaniards playing for Bolton who got overlooked in Hierro and Campo. All though none of them had a huge effect on the game, Garcia looked sharp if not a little quick to biitch when the pass wasn't perfect. Alonso looked good in and around the box. Josemi had a good work rate and the manager, Benitez took the back seat from comments, with his tactics on show clearly not quite right.
Not only is it Mersey side who has experienced the invasion, but the fortress of Highbury has been watching one Cesc Fabregas with great content. Not to mention a now flourishing super Jo Reyes. I, being a Gooner myself, obviously knew of Cesc and saw a bit of him last season, on the lesser stage of the Carling Cup, but I doubt many of you guys had heard of him before this year. You most likely will have by now, because he's been grabbing praise from all who have seen him. Including hints as to an international call-up from national coach Luis Arogones. With Reyes just as likely to be spearheading the attack.
But it isn't only these 3 clubs who have been experiencing the effects of the Iberians. Pillaging has taken place with Owen having left Liverpool without so much of a wave and much the same as his entrance at the Bernabeu. He almost slipped out of the back door for next to nothing, but Madrid got their Spanish spy Fernando Nunez going the other way. Tyne side, too, could not resist the money on offer for one of the few bright ideas of a generally mediocre pool of Magpie defenders. Both went to Madrid, both English internationals and key figures. No mention was ever previously given of leaving their respective clubs, let alone to go abroad.
But the point of this topic is not only for discussion on the obvious players and manager, but to dig more deeper and say why?
It was literally weeks ago that people put Spaniards in the same bracket as Portuguese and Brazilians as- players who clearly have talent and possess great flair, but wouldn't be suited to the Prem or wouldn't tough it out. What changed that? Ronaldo may have led the way in showing strength and skill can be mixed to great effect, but surely he was a learning exception?
Spain had an average summer competition. So why invest in 5 new players to come to premiership clubs? Benitez being hired can be explained because of his clear success story through out his career, but surely there had to be concern over him tactically. I mean the Prem is like the zesty lemon compared to the flagrant spiked pear of La Liga.

Exactly that. He was holding his hip and limping previous to being subbed, so upper leg injury I guess.
> Owen also had a hand in the Ronaldo goal. Not a bad start.
He slipped in like a fish into water. Except for the fact he seemed slightly subbdued and second fiddle to fat Ron, he played the supporting role really well. Only had 2 chances, but generally looked good.
Owen also had a hand in the Ronaldo goal. Not a bad start.
D'ya think he might be regretting the move? Didn't think he'd walk into the first team with the other players they've got.
First we had the Italians at Chelsea, and then the French with Arsenal.
Aint really many Italians left though is there in the prem? Only Pistone springs to mind at the moment...French seemed to have made thier stay permanent though.
