New rumour that is apparently from a legit source.

The new Nintendo system A.K.A Revolution will apparently be known as Nintendo 21
It will feature a Gamecube style controller, with a touch pad in the C-Stick area (which is now missing)
It will have 'Rub' control on both the controller and buttons, the controller itself will be pressure sensitive as well.

Worth noting is the connection to other systems not by Internet!

Anyway the following is a translation of what the Japanese guy translated to English. Also, take a look at the diagram which the person sribbled down after looking at both the New system and the logo!

Name of machine is "Nintendo 21"
- planned for release at end of 2005
- medium is 2-sided 8cm disc, 5.4GB capacity, in a shellcase
- includes "Home Game function" which uses IEEE protocol to locate and communicate with other Nintendo 21s in the vicinity
- "Home Game function" is free, connect the AC adaptor and the machine talks to nearby Nintendo 21s and "Nintendo Home"s (? could be Form instead of Home - katakana is vague). Save data is stored on the main unit and affects other machines over the network.
- "Nintendo Home" machine is like a base station that will be put in many places and uses the PHS network for communication (popular mobile phone network). Will connect to handheld game machines and supports "Home Game function", also sends latest info from Nintendo.
- "Nintendo Home" is being jointly developed with Kyosera.
- controller is like GC controller but "rubbing" is possible - e.g. you can control movement in a game by rubbing the controller/buttons. Also the controller has a slot.
- The whole controller is pressure sensitive. So rubbing can be done with the buttons or via grip.
- Digital outputs included

So then......Nintendo 21. A reference to Nintendo being in the gaming business 21 years?

I'm pretty sure that Nintendo opened up it's first R&D unit in 1963, called "games". Surely this would suggest that that's when they started in the gaming business. Before that they made cards. So they were in the card making business.
Everyone stop being so petty.

"MB Games"

Until recently they made board and card games. Now they own some computer game licences too.

"Gaming industry"

"the gaming business"

Why on earth would we be talking about card games. COMPUTER GAMES. That's "the gaming business". Stop trying to be so clever.

Heh, kinda hard to be wrong when it's a clear cut fact. Hanafuda cards were used for games soon after Nintendo produced them, which prompted them to design game-specific cards i.e. Nintendo enters the gaming business. I'm sure an intelligent wee fella such as yourself doesn't need someone else to tell you to look it up if you don't believe the facts.

that would be the worst name ever. The gamecube was released in the 21st century as well. We're 5 years into the century, it's old news. The name, I feel is just ballicks. My guess is that they'll stick with Revolution, as they keep saying "currently codenamed Revolution", and if they were planning a name change (something that would have to occur at this years E3), they just wouldn't say that. It's a bit of a rubbish name, but it's not exactly up against much competition. PS3 and XBox360 aren't exactly very attractive names. I think Revolution may be slightly too longwinded to be the actual name, but you never know.

Sigh* - Macintosh how many games do you know of that have come close to filling up 30GB?? You do realise that information on a game disc has to be put there by programmers in the first place? More - information = more work & more time spent programming...

To put things into perspective for you, take Halflife 2, which took 6 years to develop, and is easily the most complete game in that everything that the developers wanted to include has been included, (seeing as the programmers had all the time available to them), well that only took up 3.1 GB of space, so when you consider that that was 6 years worth of programming, I think you will find that 30GB will never be used by any game anytime soon. Space really isn't an issue, so what if Nintendo decided to go with bog standard CDs it wouldn't compromise game qulity in the slightest - it would just mean more CDs per game, and that admittedly annoying "please insert disc X" prompt.

31 years since their first console, 42 years since they set up their first R&D department.

and they've been in the computer gaming business longer than 21 years, which suggests that this 21 stuff is utter nonsense. See my posts below.
